Step 6: Manage and mitigate risks


Implement your action plan.

 

Implementation is about making HIPAA compliance a daily priority.  That means
adhering to HIPAA policies and procedures, and doing everything else necessary under the 10 Step Plan explained in My HIPAA Guide.

It also means that compliance must be a top-of-mind priority.  For example, if a staff member becomes aware of data stored in an unlocked closet, there should be no question that this must be addressed immediately and reported to a designated Privacy and/or Security Official.  A culture of vigilance emanates from leadership.
